A system and method for handling missed video calls by allowing a receiver to create a personalized video, voice, or no message to be played when they are unable to answer a call. The system determines the receiver's availability and, if unavailable, retrieves and streams the prerecorded message to the caller. After the message, the caller is given the option to leave a video voicemail message or hang up. If a video voicemail is left, the system stores the message and notifies the receiver.
